At the end of the month Marlborough will finally get their long awaited turn for a long anniversary weekend. It seems a long time ago that Wellingtonians just across the Cook Strait got their long weekend anniversary celebration way back at the end of January, but let’s hope it’s worth the wait with warmer weather heading our way. Anniversary days are a great way of celebrating everything good about your region and Marlborough will be no different. If you have no plans and you fancy joining us down here in Picton to celebrate, here are a few ideas for things to do this Marlborough Anniversary weekend to celebrate all things local.
Wine tasting tour
It’s the first thing that comes into many people’s minds when they think of Marlborough and with the warmer spring weather, the vines are starting to show signs of life and the vineyards are starting to come to live again. There is nothing better than sampling some of Marlborough’s finest produce on a trip down to the region and with Blenheim just a 25 minute drive from Picton, you will not be short of places to take a tour.
Our Summer’s Coming competition partner Hop n Grape run a fantastic wine tasting tour so make sure you check them out and also enter our competition for a chance to win a weekend away for two people which includes a wine tasting tour!
Walk or Cycle the Queen Charlotte Track
The people of Marlborough are known for their love of the great outdoors and it’s no real surprise with so much beauty on our doorstep. As you know, one of our favourite things to do is take a wander out onto the Queen Charlotte Track and explore new sections or even think about an overnight stay and an extended walk. The track is also great for cyclists so make sure you give it a go the next time you’re in town.

Cruise the Sounds
If walking is not your thing, one of the best ways to explore the stunning Marlborough Sounds is on a cruise. Beachcomber Cruises run a variety of cruises and one of our favourites is their Mail Boat cruise which sees you visiting rural communities and helping to deliver mail, parcels and supplies – pretty cool stuff!
Beachcomber Cruises are also one of our Summer’s Coming partners and a super cool bunch of people so give them a go!
Bonus activity
If you are still looking for ideas and looking for something for the whole family then E-Ko Tours run a real variety of activities including the chance to swim with dolphins as well as whale watching.
Whatever you do this Marlborough Anniversary weekend, come and spend the weekend with us down here in Picton and explore some new sights and sounds.
